9.50am The boom-box speakers are already working overtime blasting out the tunes, but those spectators who are in are in a more sedate mood at the moment. Give it a few hours, though.
Nasser Hussain pitchside: "It's almost like a subcontinent pitch without the usual sheen and shine you expect here. It doesn't look fast and bouncy, almost like the kind of pitch you'd expect in India and it will take turn later on." He fancies the skiddy West Indies bowlers will be a problem for the batsmen.
Still time to enter our Fantasy game for the series. And if that's up your street, check out scrum.com's Six Nations Fantasy … that competition kicks off in the snow with England v Italy on Saturday.
9.45am "Picture perfect day in Kingston, clear blue sky although there is a hint in the forecast that there may be a few showers later in the game," advises Andrew McGlashan from the boundary edge. "Paltry crowd so far, mainly made up of England supporters."
"Owais Shah should come and join Pakistan," emails Faisal. "We don't play much Test cricket either."
9.40am Bell is a "very, very lucky lad indeed," chunters Bob Willis. Our feedbackers are not being quite so polite. The thing is that by playing Bell they have almost certainly decided to play him for at least two or three Tests out here. So Shah again appears to have a lot of sitting around ahead of him.
9.30am Andrew Strauss has won the toss and England will bat ...he looks pretty pleased with himself. The pitch is dry and brown and there's little doubt Chris Gayle would have done the same had things gone his way. Both captains in blazers looking very smart.
Dale Richards has failed a late fitness test so Devon Smith opens with Gayle.
